Mount Saint Joseph Senior Receives Annual Bishop P. Francis Murphy Peacemaking Award
Mount St. Joseph High School, as a school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers, was pleased to present the Peacemaking Award from the P. Francis Murphy Initiative for Justice and Peace to senior Andrew Rudrow at its Senior Awards Ceremony. The Xaverian Brothers are one of the founding members of this Initiative which is composed of 14 religious orders which have ministries in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Bishop P. Francis Murphy worked long and hard for justice and peace in Baltimore and the country until his death in 1999.
The award recognizes that Andrew Rudrow is a student who recognizes that fulfilling service hour requirements should not be something to check off of a to-do list. Rather, this student understands that caring for those who are suffering or less fortunate is simply consistent with what it means to be a Christian. The recipient of this award must possess both the optimism and faith that allow him to believe that one person can make a difference. He must understand that to bring about real change one must have the courage and energy to be part of such an effort.
